Scholar Spotlight: Sonia Segovia

Sonia grew up in Pulupundan, Negros Occidental with two siblings. Her father managed his own general store and, at the same time, operated two passenger jeepneys. Her mother worked as a government employee.

At a young age, she had already set her goals. Coming from a working class family, education was given the utmost priority. Sonia knew that to achieve her dreams for herself and her family, she had to work hard.

She was able to enter college at St. La Salle Bacolod in 1984. Sonia de la Torre, as she was known back then, pursued a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, with a major in Accounting. Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines 2011 Search Kicks Off

The SGV Foundation launched the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Philippines 2011 (EOYP) program on March 1, 2011 on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) cable television show On The Scene.

14th FVR book in the works

SGV Chairman and Managing Partner Vic Noel together with Deputy Managing Partner Itos Cruz and Marketing and Communications senior director Marlu Balmaceda paid a courtesy call on former President Fidel V. Ramos (FVR) to discuss FVR’s upcoming book titled Best Practices: Teamwork in Nation Building.

Co-published by SGV Foundation and RPDEV, this book is volume 14 of the series of selected speeches, lectures, articles, letters and anecdotes of FVR.

SGVF holds annual meeting for FY 2010-2011

The members of the Board of Trustees and Committees of the SGV Foundation (SGVF) held their Annual Meeting at the Shang Grand Tower Penthouse. Elected to the FY 2010-2011 Board of Trustees were Cirilo P. Noel as Chairman and President and J. Carlitos G. Cruz as Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President. The Board also welcomed its new members Wilson P. Tan, SGV Partner, and Milwida M. Guevara, President and Chief Executive Officer of Synergeia Foundation.

SyCip biography wins book award

Wash: Only a Bookkeeper joins the roster of the most outstanding Philippine books written, designed and published in 2009. It was presented with the National Book Award (NBA) for Nonfiction Prose at the Metropolitan Museum on November 13, 2010. The NBA was established in 1982 and presented annually by the National Book Development Board and the Manila Critics Circle.
